A superabsorbent polymer (SAP) (also called slush powder) is a water-absorbing hydrophilic homopolymers or copolymers that can absorb and retain extremely large amounts of a liquid relative to its own mass.

Application of Super Absorbent Polymer
Application in Agriculture
Superabsorbent polymers are also called water retainers and soil conditioners in agriculture and horticulture. Especially in arid areas, adding a small amount of superabsorbent polymers to the soil can lock the water after absorbing water and then slowly release it, thereby improving the drought resistance of crops.
Application in Industry
It can be used to make water-stopping swelling rubber, water-absorbing antifouling coatings, anti-condensation coatings, etc., to facilitate industrial production. In addition, polymer absorbent resins can also be used for oil field water plugging and oil-water separation to improve oil field mining efficiency.
Application in the medical field
It is mainly used to produce medical dressings and biomedical materials. For example, hemostatic dressings use the water absorption properties of polymer absorbent resins to lock the absorbed water in the dressings, thereby playing a role in rapid hemostasis.
The main ingredients are acrylic acid, sodium hydroxide (or a similar neutralizing agent) and water plus a cross linker which forms the bridge that links one polymer chain to another.
This solution is mixed together and undergoes a polymerisation process to form the three-dimensional networks of polymer chains. This takes the form of an aqueous gel.
The granules are ground and sieved to the desired particle size. At this point the superabsorbent material can be further cross linked to give the material specific absorbency characteristics.
