Applications in Papermaking Wastewater Treatment
Industrial grade polymer flocculant polyacrylamide is primarily used in the papermaking wastewater treatment process for flotation clarification and the dewatering stage of sludge after concentration. Selecting the appropriate type of polyacrylamide can efficiently treat wastewater and help reduce operational costs.
Characteristics of Papermaking Wastewater:
Pulping produces dark brown wastewater with poor biodegradability. The wastewater contains lignin, hemicellulose, and pigments. COD, BOD, and SS levels are high.
Papermaking wastewater, known as white water, contains large amounts of fiber and sizing agents added during production.
Use of Polyacrylamide in Papermaking Wastewater Treatment
Anionic polyacrylamide can adsorb and bridge with the suspended matter in papermaking wastewater to form large flocs. These flocs can be purified through an air flotation machine and stored together. Usually, anionic polyacrylamide is prepared as a solution with a concentration of 0.1% - 0.3%. It is added to the wastewater at a dosage of 5 ppm (adjusted according to the concentration of the on-site wastewater), and the mixture of wastewater and PAM produces a flocculation effect, reducing the turbidity of the wastewater while also lowering some COD.
In the treatment of papermaking wastewater, the use of coagulants such as polyaluminium chloride in combination with cationic polyacrylamide can enhance the strength of the flocs, reduce the turbidity of the wastewater, and at the same time, it can also reduce the amount of PAM used while improving the treatment effect. During the sludge dewatering process, various filter dewatering equipment can be used. By taking advantage of the long molecular chains, the concentrated sludge can be transformed into large flocs, and then the sludge can be dewatered together with the filter equipment.
When treating papermaking wastewater using anionic polyacrylamide, a medium degree of hydrolysis and a high molecular weight product can be selected. For the papermaking wastewater after biochemical treatment, both the air flotation and sludge pressing processes can use cationic polyacrylamide, with a charge density lower than 30%. A horizontal comparison should be conducted to select the most suitable model, which can save costs and improve efficiency.

Product Usage Instructions
Before using polyacrylamide, it should be dissolved in advance. The recommended dissolution ratio range is 0.1% to 0.3%. You can adjust it according to the actual situation on site. Make sure to ensure the dissolution time. Only after polyacrylamide is completely dissolved can the best effect be achieved.
